We Each Know Everyone Else

Spirit tells me that there have always been
dedicated teachers of wisdom in every culture
since time began, who have shared their
understanding and awareness of how life
can be lived for the benefit of all.

But, there are surely many more ways than
one to live a life that benefits all,
if it was possible to know how the life
we live could harm anyone.

Awareness would teach you.

How to become aware?

Experience.

Experience of what?

Being harmed as a result of how others
live their lives.

It isn’t possible to know how all others
live their lives.

Why?

I don’t know all others.

Do you know yourself?

Yes, I think so.

Then you know everyone else.

Where do Expectations Come From?

Spirit tells me tht we deprive elderly people
of the simple pleasure of self-care when
we do for them what they only require
assistance doing for themselves.

They become the object of our care and then
they begin to lose the sense of self-worth
that self-care allowed them to experience
and express.

What if they are unable, even with assistance,
to care for themselves?

When they are dead?

Not physically dead.

Emotionally?

No. Not that either.

Then?

You’re setting me up.

Yes.

Then, please explain.

Explain what?

I have been a care-giver and have
personally assisted clients with
bathing and home care, but
I have never, as far as I know,
been anyone’s first experience
in receiving paid care from.

What has that to do with anything?

Clients have expectations of what
to expect from paid caregivers.

Where do their expectations
come from?

A social worker would have
assessed their needs and …

How?

By testing their performance level
of activities of daily living.
The results would be recorded
on a scale of from very well
to not at all.

The results of the assessment
would determine what assistance
the person being tested required?

Yes.

Have you ever personally known
any client assessed as requiring
partial assistance cleaning
her kitchen or bathroom?

It’s quicker for the caregiver to do
the job alone and the time she
or he is allotted to any one client
is limited.

Then, the client becomes the job
that is objectified;?

That sounds impersonal.

In today’s so-called health care
system, client care has become
very impersonal.

So, how can we improve it?

We can learn to care.

How?

The only way possible.

Personal experience?

Yes.

Awareness is not an End in Itself

Spirit tells me, as if to console my aching heart,
that letting go was never easy
for anyone who ever felt they needed to be
connected to whatever or whomever, until
there didn’t seem to be an acceptable alternative.

The interconnecting energy relaxes on its own,
or will if we will let it.

It didn’t seem to need permission.

We need to learn to allow ourselves to feel
connected as long as it seems to make sense
to be so, and then, the bonds of relationship
relax, gently or otherwise, to facilitate
adaptation to newly developed awareness.

Close relationships will always be close,
unless …

Unless what?

Unless they seem …

To become more or less close?

Yes. Are you aware that you are aware of
a change in certain relationships?

Yes, and yet not as an observer of
outside events.

Yes. We can become increasing aware of
our inner feelings and rationalize
about them without denying them.

Yes, and self-awareness seems to be
non-judgmental.

Yes. It accepts that what is, is,
for whatever reason.

So, where do we go from here?

From where?

From accepting that we feel whatever
strength of whatever emotion about
whatever situation or relationship.

Then it’s time to think and rationalize
about where to go from here.

Feeling has served its purpose?

Yes. Now it’s time to choose
how to act on our awareness.

Then, awareness is not an end it itself?

Never. The price of awareness is responsibility
for whatever response we choose in whatever
situation.

Dreams serve us well, or can.

Spirit tells me that dreams serve us well,
even if we cannot remember them, upon awakening.

They are designed to help us see symbolic
meaning between situations and personalities,
whether human, animal, bird, or imaginary
creatures, within the dream and similar
situations, events and characters within
our everyday non-sleeping world of illusion.

Situations and stories play out in dreams,
and then, usually, end suddenly. We wake up
to a different world of more easily
understood situations and characters.

Perhaps we have just become accustomed to
the events and actors in our waking world?

Yes, and familiarity can easily breed
deceit.

In what way?

Advertisers, politicians, educators,
news reporters, and even many parents
use a pretense of authority and truth,
and intentional dishonest to persuade,
or pressure young and trusting minds.

But, in my dream I witnessed a crow
doing what crows could not likely do.

Were you aware of this during the dream?

I seem to remember being confused
and in awe.

But, you accepted the situation as being
valid.

Yes.

Why did you not question something that
did not seem to make sense?

Because I was witnessing the event.
It was only in my mind that it did
not make sense.

You read fictitious stories without
expecting them to be real.

But, surely, real life is not
a fictitious story.

Then, why do you not question events
and situations in your so-called
waking life that do not seem to make
sense, and people claiming to be
what you know they are not.

Perhaps they have a hidden agenda.

Yes.

But, I’m only one person. What possible
useful purpose would it serve for me
to …

So you adopt more socially acceptable
position of pretending not to know?

I guess. But, if whatever untruth
is generally accepted, then surely
I would serve no useful purpose, and
some others must know but, like me,
prefer to pretend not to.

Why?

It’s easier, and possibly, safer.

Yes.

Constraints as Challenging Bars

Spirit shares ageless wisdom with me, but
it seems to require never-ending development.

I obviously don’t have what it takes.
I struggle, as many others surely do,
to live within constraints not of my own
choosing.

Spirit claims that I do choose and am
trying to avoid accepting responsibility
for choices I freely make.

But, how free are we to make choices
when the choice I seem to need to make
is the lesser of two or more otherwise
unacceptable choices? Spirit is unimpressed
with my whimpering. It doesn’t move him.

Constraints, He tells me, are necessary to future
progress in any discipline or area of human
development, including spiritual, intellectual,
or material, in that they provide challenges to
our present level of skill, as well as serving to
soften our ego’s otherwise smug sense of
satisfaction in the moment of victory.

Challenges that we have faced and overcome
seem to whisper to our inner ear,
perhaps we should raise the bar.

We each are as a personal history book.

Spirit shares words of wisdom.

Spirit tells me that knowing is not a matter of faith.
We know that wounds hurt for we have experienced
their pain, both physically and emotionally.

Physical pain is felt through our physical senses,
while emotional pain is a mental state, and is often
learned and developed through habit.

How do we learn emotional pain?

It is a socially acquired skill.

If you offend me and I feel distressed, then I have
learned to feel distressed, and you are not the cause?

Yes.

Who taught me?

You taught yourself

Then, everyone would feel offended for the same reason?

Not necessarily.

Why?

You could not offend me.

Perhaps you’ve developed immunity to offence.

There are other labels.

Such as?

Tolerance, patience, understanding, compassion –
the list goes on.

You did not include awareness.

Yes.

Why?

The examples I provided each require a certain
depth of awareness.

The problem with that approach, or at least
one problem, is that it would be seem to require
a certain detachment from the emotional state of
the offender, as well as oneself.

Why would that be a problem?

It would suggest a certain lack of sensitivity.

Not necessarily so.

Please explain.

As we becomes increasingly aware of the path,
then we can listen to what some might call offence
calmly, and feel compassion for the distress of
the other. As Confucius might say, “No blame”.

How is that possible?

As we develop ever-more clear vision we can see in
many more directions than one. The present arrived
from the past and we each are as a personal history
book that those who have eyes to see can read, and
we all can and will develop eyes that see, sooner or
later, and from a unique perspective.

I’m not ready for that quality of insight, yet.

Yes.

The only way.

Spirit tells me that our dreams are worlds of parallel reality
to our so-called awake world, designed to teach us of the
potential for illusion in our so-called everyday experiences.

While dreaming, the dream world seems real, even thought it
may not be in many, or any ways similar to our world upon
awakening.

How can it seem real, if it is not?

One thing we are aware of during our dream is our own
existence, even if it is experienced no more than as an
observer. We relate to the drama. It seems to make sense
to us, at the time. We never stop to question its
authenticity.

So, the dream could be telling me something totally unrelated
to the scenario in the dream itself?

Yes.

Then, how do I make sense of it?

When?

After I wake up.

Do you wake up?

What do you mean?

To wake up is to become aware that human existence itself
is an illusion.

But, I am living a human existence.

Yes.

Why?

To develop awareness of the power of relationship.

Singular?

Yes.

In that any and all express a way of Life?

Yes, the only Way.

Envy Wants.

Spirit shares gems of wisdom.

Spirit tells me that our spiritual journey through
the illusion that is human life must pass through
many valleys of doubt and wind around dark mountains
and dense forests of insecurity and fear.

We will lose faith in ourselves and even in the existence
of our goal, again and again. But, we will move on and on,
for something stronger and surer than our own will prepares
the path we follow, as the wise ones have always assured us.

Trust in yourself, He tells me. Build confidence on
the awareness of having come as far as you have. How did
you do it? Not without help. All angels and spirit guides
are dedicated to our success. And, so, we can none of us
not succeed. It’s only a matter of …

Time?

Not time, for there is none, or none that can be accurately measured.

Then, when we each are ready?

Yes.

Then, how do I cope with my distress with myself for not
being able to become what I seem to know that I can become,
as quickly as I would like to?

What’s the hurry?

I seem to feel that I’m wasting precious time.

Compared to the progress of some others?

Perhaps.

Yes. The need to compete is not entirely socially conditioned.
It is part of our nature, but its natural purpose has been
distorted by social conditioning.

Doing our best can inspire others to do more than they might
otherwise do. It was not designed to diminish others. Likewise,

We should admire those who seem to ee able to do what we
cannot?

Yes. recognition of excellence is mutually beneficial.
It both expresses respect and inspires us, not necessarily
to be great, but to be the best that we can be. Envy is
neither emotionally nor spiritually a healthy state of mind.

Envy wants what other have without considering the price
some others may have paid for their success?

Yes.

Teachers as Messengers?

Spirit shares gems of wisdom.

Spirit tells me that I am not the one who is directing
His traffic, nor is He directing mine, except …

Except what?

Not what, but how and why? We each serve a higher purpose
than our own.

I am free, He tells me, to choose to listen to Him and
the teachings that He would share with me, or not to
listen. He is a messenger and the messages he delivers
to me, for whatever reason or reasons, are far beyond
a one-to-one personal correspondence. They are meant for
whomever cares to hear them and to consider their value.
They were never, He tells me, designed for me, alone.

Why me at all?

You seemed to be ready.

Can you be both a messenger and a teacher of the messages
you share with me?

Is a teacher not as a messenger to his or her students?

Yes, I see. The teacher must first have received the messages
she or he now shares with students.

Yes.

Form as a temporary illusion

Spirit shares gems of wisdom.

Spirit suggests that I let Life lead me where it wills to.
To resist, He adds, is wasting precious time, my own, or
at least my temporary share of Cosmic energy.

We are each alone together on a journey of discovery. Life
is a treasure chest that has somehow dumped itself and
scattered its precious contents of adventures and, at times
even hidden them, but not without leaving subtle clues, or
not so subtle hints at where and how to find what is meant
for each of us, alone to find, our own inner self, the
perfect complement to who and what we now seem to believe
we are.

How would I recognize this inner me?

It will be as if looking into a magic mirror, that reflects
only your essence, without form. The essence is real and
timeless. The form is no more than a temporary illusion.
