Saying it doesn’t make it so.

Spirit tells me that, at a grass-roots level, compassion is as

Sophisticated a way as any to express genuine care.

Gentle words of love and caring serve a need, both to the

Giver and to the one receiving, but only when the words

Are supported by caring deeds can they at least seem

To be genuine expressions.

Compassion is a beautiful word that expresses a deep but

Simple emotion, genuine care for someone or something.

But, saying it is never enough. We need to support our

Caring words with caring actions.

I could still be pretending.

Yes.

A powerful sense of responsibility

Spirit tells me that the purpose of His teaching is to encourage

The study and practice of an increasingly clearer understanding of

Our interconnectedness to all forms of life, human and otherwise,

And of our personal responsibility to care for and protect, not only

Our own unique individual life, but also that of the countless,

Equally unique life forms that we share our world with.

How?

By becoming intentionally aware of how we live and the negative

Affect that may have on others.

That would require a powerful sense of responsibility.

Not would; it does.

Is it possible?

Yes.

How?

One step at a time.

And the first step is intention?

Yes.

Pleasure and responsibility blend

Spirit tells me that, as I care for the plants (He seems to

Disapprove of my calling them my plants) on my patio or

In my little back garden, they also care for me, and,

Even during Winter, they, as I do, require care.

However, we each may require more care or a

Different type of care during different seasons of

Our lives, as do different people we know and

Care about, in a personal way.

These special plants and people (for they are special, if

Only to us) seem to need what we alone can give them,

Our love, unconditionally.

We share a personal, interdependent relationship;

A bonding of emotion and thought, of

Pleasure and responsibility.

We each have a duty to care

Spirit tells me that we each have a sacred duty to care for

The world we live in, the world that sustains us and

Makes it possible for us to experience physical

Existence within a material creation.

Each suggests a personal responsibility.

Yes.

How is it possible for individuals…

Are you speaking of individuals in general or of

Yourself, in particular?

Both.

The answer is the same.

My question is still, how can it be done?

It can only be done individually. We each must learn to

Care about and care for everyone and everything else.

We each may have a different understanding of

What it means to care about and for.

What is your understanding?

I do care about and for whom and what I can.

How much do you care about and for, and

How do you express this care?

Am I on a witness stand?

Everyone is on a witness stand.

Because I care, He tells me

Spirit tells me that nobody does anything without having a reason for doing

Whatever.

There are times I resist accepting Spirit’s statements of fact that refute

What I believe to be truths. But, in this instance, I must agree. It just

Wouldn’t make sense to do something without a reason.

Spirit seems to accept that I can only believe what makes sense

to me, according to my limited awareness. He encourages me

To observe my own behaviour as well as that of others, and

Question myself as to why I do what I do.

I will discover, He tells me, that much of my behaviour has developed as

Habitual generalized responses to specific situations that would be

Better served with a more unique response.

Responding to specific situations with a generalized response

Is disrespectful and self-defeating, He tells me, in that I deprive myself

Of the opportunity to develop more appropriate responses.

He is right, and I will try.

Don’t try, He says, Intend and do.

Then I accept the challenge and, instead of wondering why,

I dare to ask Him why He is lecturing me in such a seemingly

Harsh manner.

Because I care.

Nothing more and nothing less

Spirit tells me that

Other seekers of enlightenment

Who read of my struggle to learn

From Spirit, while maintaining, or

Attempting to maintain, devotion to

Physical as well as spiritual life,

Alone or with others who are

Alone together, more or less,

May find that my struggle

Offers something to think about

That may help them grow in

Understanding of why

Life is as it is, or

Seems to be,

An endless cycle or series of

Experiences, designed,

If they are,

To teach us what?

Spirit tells me that

We share what we care

To share, nothing more, and,

Nothing less.

Personality is not Physical

Spirit tells me that a person, any person

can be described according to

physical features, but, that

personality cannot be

so described.

Personality is a dynamic interaction of

intellect and emotion, fluctuating in

variable quantities and strengths of

particular qualities in, or during,

different situations, and

personality is a blend of

more or less consistent

thought, emotional, and

behavioral patterns.

But, Spirit tells me,

an individual’s behaviour can

reflect thoughts and emotions, or

it can be used as a mask,

to protect or hide them,

not necessarily for the purpose of

deceit, but to separate

shared and private worlds.

We choose what we care to share.
