Existence Expresses Essence

Spirit tells me that the existentialist claim,
if it be one, that existence must necessarily
come before essence is based on a misconception
of reality.

Nothing exists without essence and essence
exists to express itself.

Essence can be described as a spiritual
underground movement, whose roots do not develop
in the open air but beneath the surface of
everyday life.

Their light comes from within and they live
to nourish and support, not a transcendent form
of themselves but a life that can thrive
in the open air and learn to adapt to
a different form of light to sustain it
above ground.

The underground environment protects
and nourishes roots that know they will
never see the results of their life’s work.
But they also know they are part
of something much greater
than might seem to be.

Roots are as one with the plant
they feed with their life.

Roots could teach us, if we are
willing to learn, that we have
limited control over outside forms,
but we do have an inner source
of power and light, if we will
only open to it.

Then, perhaps we are as form
unaware of our own essence?

Yes, or a plant that denies
it has roots.

Indecision Never Wins

jeanw5's avatarI Ching as a Way to Enlightenment

Spirit shares I Ching wisdom.

I Ching 31 – Sensing follows Fire in the sequential
order of situations and events that we each face
as we travel along our physical life journey.

As in cause and effect?

No.

Then what?

As in order or progression. The universe
does not operate on a system of cause
and effect, even if at times it might
appear to do so.

Then, why does Sensing follow Fire?

You might also ask why Sensing leads
to Withdrawal, or why that outcome
might be advisable.

Can we go back to Sensing?

We never left it, at least not those
of us who pay close attention
to whatever situation has developed
or shows signs of doing so.

Then, Sensing is as an instinctual
awareness?

Awareness is not instinctual, but does
or can develop from a natural response
to heat, among other things.

Could instinct be considered as

Female Personification of Eastern Wisdom

jeanw5's avatarGrass-Roots Spiritual Philosophy 101

Our simple seeker was deeply engrossed in reading
Terah Kathryn Collins’ The Three Sisters of the Tao.

It is possible to read with much less intensity.

Perhaps, for some, if what they are reading
is for casual entertainment.

Even some serious students allow themselves
a certain distance from the subject of the text.

Yes, it is as a text, with an important difference.

And the difference is?

Personal experience.

How can you be sure?

My own personal experience supports the author’s
general conception of bringing otherwise dry
ancient wisdom …

Can ancient wisdom be dry?

Yes, if it is presented in an overly intellectual
manner.

So, ancient wisdom needs an infusion of emotion?

I think so.

And your own personal experience confirms the
author’s truth?

What does that term mean?

What term?

The author’s truth.

What does it mean to you?

To me it means the author is expressing
her…

Unconditional Love is Intelligent Love

Spirit tells me that unconditional love
is intelligent love.

But, isn’t love an emotion?

Yes.

And, doesn’t intelligence require
intellect?

Yes.

Then, is unconditional love a blend
of intellect and emotion?

No.

Please explain.

What?

How unconditional love …

Expresses intelligence?

Yes.

Do we love whom we do only when
their behaviour pleases us?

No.

Why?

We choose to overlook imperfections.

Yes.

What does that mean?

You answered your own question.

How?

Choice requires decision-making,
and that requires intellect.

So, unconditional love does not
negate or excuse unlovable
behaviour, but chooses to love
regardless.

Yes.

What Universal Law(s) Apply to Awareness?

What does higher education have in common with Tranquility and Obstruction? Spirit’s answer: we learn to reach high while we can.

jeanw5's avatarI Ching as a Way to Enlightenment

Spirit shares I Ching wisdom.

I Ching 12 – Obstruction, follows Tranquility.

Times of peace never last?

It is the nature of yin and yang to interact
with each other. The seasons, too, play
this game, as do day and night. The tides
rise high and then slip back only to rise
again, before …

Does it all go on forever?

What?

Up and down, in and out, win and lose.

The natural order provides a background
for all life to learn to adapt. It’s
a beginning.

A beginning of what?

Higher education.

What does higher education have
in common with tranquility and
obstruction?

We learn to reach high, while we can.

To make hay while the sun shines?

Exactly.

That sounds great …

But?

How can we advance beyond narrow …

Or shallow?

Yes. Limits were surely designed
to be expanded.

What limits?

The limits of human …

Why…

How Can I Know What is Possible?

Dear Reader, Do my Spirit Teacher’s thoughts seem designed to make you understand more clearly, or to challenge you to question him?

jeanw5's avatarGrass-Roots Spiritual Philosophy 101

Our simple seeker was meditating on
the seemingly-separate realities of
yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

Or past, present, and future?

Yes.

Why seemingly separate?

You know why.

Yes, but do you?

Yes. They are continuously and seamlessly
woven together.

In what way?

Each emerges from one of the others,
continuously.

What if I suggested that they exist
each within the other, at all times
and in all places?

I would find that possibility …

It is more than a possibility.

Then, I would still find it
difficult to accept.

But not impossible?

How can I know what is possible?

You could ask me.

But, your answer might be designed
to test my willingness to accept
whatever you might tell me.

Yes.

Transcendence as Sacred, or Is It?

Spirit tells me that when we intend
to learn more about life, or anything
else, as if there were anything
unrelated to life, then we intend
to transcend what we now know,
or think we know.

Or now believe?

No. Belief is an end point.

Until we doubt?

Yes.

Back to transcendence.

Transcendence doesn’t go back.

I thought the term transcendence
was spiritual.

It is, but not exclusively.

Isn’t there a danger in …

Using a word to express what it
was designed to express?

Then, to rise above could refer
to moving up a material ladder
from a lower to a higher level?

Yes, or to intentionally integrate
thoughts and emotions, and then
to transcend that integration
by physically or mentally
acting on the outcome.

Then, action, any action, is
an intentional expression of
a blend of thought and emotion?

Yes.

Regardless of the quality of the
blend or the resulting action?

Yes.

Then, where is the beauty and
magnificence that transcendence
suggests, more than suggests; it
seems to inspire awe and devotion.

A word can do that?

For me, yes. At least it did
until you …

Until I what?

You removed the shine and reflection
of a higher light.

Did I remove the light?

No.

Then, what?

I was using the word to replace
the light?

Yes.

Idol worship?

Yes.

An Inner Will to Reach High or Low

jeanw5's avatarI Ching as a Way to Enlightenment

Spirit shares His I Ching understanding.

Hexagram 33 – Withdrawal.
Heaven above; Mountain below.

Withdrawal does not necessarily mean retreat.

What other purpose would it have?

Possibly, many more than one.

Such as?

Situational responses require reflection
and reflection requires time out to
consider appropriate responses.

Withdrawal follows Constancy and
constant can refer to constant movement,
such as tides express. Their constancy
is a measurable high followed by a
measurable low.

Nautical charts reliably forecast,
or predict, the highest point tides
will reach, at any particular time,
anywhere in the world.

Then, tides withdraw when they have
reached a predetermined high?

Yes, and the high itself is constant
in that it reaches incrementally
higher until the high tide in a set,
and then withdraws its highest point
in a constant rhythm until its high
is as low as natural forces have
determined it will go.

It sounds so orderly.

It…

If They Have Eyes To See

jeanw5's avatarGrass-Roots Spiritual Philosophy 101

Our simple seeker was enjoying, admiring,
and envying Dan Millman and his “The Law
of Spirit”.

He obviously shared a high quality
relationship with an awakened spirit
being.

Are we jealous?

Perhaps a little.

Wh?

He is so much more …

Intelligent?

I can’t know that for sure, but ..

Then, what?

He seems to be so much more
comfortable with openly sharing
his relationship with a spirit
teacher than I am.

Why?

Perhaps he has more self-confidence.
After all, he is …

Male?

That helps, but also he earned
general admiration and respect
in his personal life.

Is his relationship with spirit
not also personal?

Yes, of course, but he was a
world class athlete before
he shared his spiritual wisdom.

His?

Well, it is his now.

How so?

Anything we learn from whomever
or whatever personal experience
becomes our own wisdom or
understanding, at least until we
begin…

Enlightenment is Different To Different People

Spirit tells me that the way of enlightenment
is different things to different people,
if only in their different minds, and even
so-called different minds are not really
different at all.

Then, how can we agree on the way to go?

Where?

To enlightenment.

There is no way.

No way to enlightenment or no way to agree?

Yes.

Please explain.

We are each and always have been
in the process of becoming.

Becoming what?

Some call it becoming enlightened.

What do you call it?

What it is.

Then, what is it?

Then, now, and forever the same
process.

What process?

Not what process of becoming?

No.

Why?

It would be an intellectual trap.

Would be, or might be?

Would be.

Yes.

Please explain the process of
enlightenment.

Before I explain enlightenment?

Yes.

Why?

I need to bring it all together.

Yes.
