Knowing requires Faith

Spirit tells me that knowing is not a matter of faith
and yet there can be no knowing without faith.

What has faith to do with knowing?

How do we learn?

Through experience.

Yes, but not through experience alone.

We reflect on past experience and use what we have
learned from it as a foundation for future …

Future what?

To guide us in our responses to future challenges.

And if what experience has taught you differs from
what others would claim to be the way to live?

This is developing beyond intellectual concepts.

Yes.

Then please explain.

Knowing is awareness

Awareness of what?

Awareness of what seems to be true, for us if for
no other.

Where does faith come in?

We each, in time, develop faith in our own
knowing, or awareness, of our own truth.

More is Less and Less is More

Spirit tells me that He understands my fear
that I might lose my own identity and become
consumed into His truth instead of being free
to discover my own.

It would be foolish not to be afraid, He assures me,
but not to risk that possible outcome, if it was
possible, would not be wise for someone like me.

He seems to know that His higher awareness has or is                                                                                            an irresistible temptation to me. I seem to very much                                                                                           want and need to learn from Him all that He can teach                                                                                          me about life and how it might be lived in service to                                                                                       Life itself without serving myself less.

He tells me that, at least in this case, and possibly
in all cases, more is less and less is more, depending
upon our focus.

To even attempt to explain …

Spirit asks me to try to see Life through the eyes of a mystic.

How does a mystic see Life?

As a mystery to be deeply respected, cherished, and served.

How to serve Life? What is Life?

All that is.

Then, how is it possible to serve all that is?

By serving yourself in such a way that expresses, if only to yourself, your awareness of oneness to everyone and everything else.

How to explain that to anyone?

To even attempt to explain it is to deny the reality.

Those who understand …

Yes.

Unity in Diversity

Spirit tells me tht we each develop awareness in our own time and in our own way.

There is no reward for those who finish first, for nobody ever finishes, at least not as individuals.

Sooner or later we choose,  not at an intellectual level of thought, but as a consequence of expanded awareness, to merge our own, unique perspective with a larger and more inclusive mind.

There is no limit to what we can learn, both individually and collectively.

But, what if some of us seem to need to learn something that others may not consider important, to them?

We each learn to satisfy our unique need to learn whatever, according to personal interest.

 Unity in diversity?

 Yes.

Discipline requires intent, purpose, and awareness.

Today’s I Ching reading by Spirit.

I Ching 60 – Discipline, develops out of Dispersal (59) and moves

Toward Sincerity (61).

Spirit explains:  Discipline requires intent, purpose, and awareness of

The price of scattered energy. Those who do not develop self-discipline

Endanger themselves and their society.

Not everyone has intent and purpose, or more than limited awareness.

You are not everyone.

There are also those who would discipline others and organize them as

Followers of their leader’s purpose.

I am one of those.

Then, where is sincerity?

In my dedication to a purpose.

Which is?

Devotion to Life.

Awareness of Reality is Progress

Spirit reads I Ching 53 – Gradual Progress.

Gradual Progress develops from Mountain (53) and moves toward

Marrying (54).

Spirit explains:  Mountains can seem to be as barriers, challenges,

Or as just part of the environment. They can be as beauty, in the eye

Of the beholder, and a pleasure to climb, or as an obstruction

To ignore, if possible.

How we see anything or anyone determines, or at least influences,

To some extent, our relationship with it or with them.

Awareness of this reality is progress along the way of enlightenment.

Where does Marrying fit into this picture?

We commit ourselves to Life, or we do not. It’s as simple as that.

If that is simple.

Yes.

Awareness expands beyond individuality

Spirit tells me that reality may seem to be different things to different people

But it only appears to be that way when we view Life from different

Perspectives; from top or bottom, from one side or another, from near or

Far, as well as, and more importantly, from our personal relationship to

The reality in question.

How can we live in such a world?

We do.

How?

We learn to play the game. Even love seems to bring happiness to some

And deep emotional pain to others. Everything is exactly as it seems to be

To whomever, at any particular time, even when it is an illusion.

Wouldn’t it be stressful..?

Yes, and no, depending …

On how seriously we take the game?

The game of Life is designed to be taken seriously..

For what purpose?

To develop an awareness that expands beyond our own individuality.

The Essence of Form is Life

Spirit tells me that the purpose of form is to express essence, and the

Essence of all or any form is Life.

Conscious awareness allows humans and all other beings to choose

How they express their individual essence, which, of course, is not

All that individual.

But, if how I choose to live my life expresses my essence, and others

Express their essence by how they live, and if we all seem to live in

Ways that are unlike those of each other, then what does this say

About life?

It simply describes Life as dynamic, variable, and highly unpredictable.

Trust in a Guiding Light

Today’s I Ching hexagram 40 – Solution develops out of Halting (39), and

Leads to Reduction (41).

Spirit explains: Unless we stop and think about what we are doing, we risk

Mindless activity. We wander from the path, our path.

We need to reconnect, recommit, and redirect our focus and energy.

How?

Awareness of our goal and trust in a guiding light.

A metaphor for?

Me.

There is only one story.

Spirit tells me that our capacity to understand what is happening round us greatly expands over a lifetime. But, our awareness does not develop without experience and with reflection on that experience, with intent to understand why it happened and what effect it had on our development.

When we recall childhood memories we need to be aware that they are memories of a child, the child we once were. A child recorded, perhaps traumatic experiences, as seen through the eyes of a child. Now, as an adult, we revisit the past and view the situations from the perspective of distance and, hopefully, developed maturity.

In the event of a similar situation experienced today, we might respond quite differently than we did long ago.

A child is usually helpless and frightened in situations beyond her or his control or understanding. The memory of terror, felt as a child, would be possibly missing in our review.

Our personal collection of memories is as a history book. There is usually no continuous, interconnected series of events recorded. And, what we do remember may or may not have contributed, more or less, to our present level of maturity and understanding of our life.

“Then what purpose is served by our memories?”

“They tell us a human story that helps us relate to other human stories, real or fiction.

“And we are more able to feel a connection with other stories because they confirm our own life story?”

“Yes. It’s the collection that is the real story. Our individual stories make sense only as part of a greater one.”

“I think you’re leading me to something.”

“Yes, the awareness that there is only one story.”
