Pain is not Suffering, Unless

jeanw5's avatarGrass-Roots Spiritual Philosophy 101

A simple seeker is recovering from yet another
fairly minor surgical procedure.

It hurts.

Yes.

Why do you say, “Yes”, as if my pain was
a blessing?

It is.

A blessing?

Yes.

How is that possible?

Are your wounds healing?

They seem to be, this time.

How do you know?

The nerves in the area are active.

Do they indicate healing?

I don’t know.

But, they live?

Yes.

That in itself is a blessing.

Yes, but they hurt.

Are you suffering?

Where are you going with that question?

Where might I be going?

Pain versus suffering?

Yes. We feel pain with physical senses,
while suffering is an emotional response
that can be controlled, if we choose
to control it.

Perhaps my suffering comforts me
in my time of pain.

Is that a healthy situation?

Healthy?

Yes.

In what sense?

Life enhancing.

Surely rejoicing in pain would suggest
an unhealthy mental…

Diversity Beyond Unity is Powerless

The Law of One expresses the reality that we do not exist alone. There is no diversity beyond unity, but we can be as diverse as we care to be, within unity.

jeanw5's avatarI Ching as a Way to Enlightenment

My Spirit Teacher shares His understanding of
I Ching Hexagram 2 – The Receptive.

There is no Yang in The Receptive. It is Yin
all the way from bottom to top.

This contrasts with Hexagram 1 – The Creative,
which is Yang all the way.

The Creative represents Heaven and
The Receptive represents Earth.

Each serves its own unique function, and yet,
each requires the other.

Power and flexibility working together?

Power and flexibility require each other.
Neither can achieve much without the other.

Then, cooperation is desirable?

Cooperation is a prerequisite to achieving
anything worth achieving.

What Universal Law would express this idea?

It is more than an idea; it is reality.

Then, what Universal Law would express or
explain this reality.

Realities do not require explanation They are.

Is this reality expressed with a Universal Law.

Yes.

Which Law?

The Law of One.

The Law of One?

Yes.

Are You My Shadow

jeanw5's avatarGrass-Roots Spiritual Philosophy 101

A simple seeker was deeply engrossed in reading
“The Shadow’s Gift” by Robin Robertson, in which
the author discusses his person experiences with
psychic mediums while maintaining an open mind
as to their authenticity.

What, exactly would an open mind look like, in
this instance?

Neither absolutely believing nor absolutely
disbelieving, but keenly interested in
understanding exactly what was happening.

Happening?

In terms of the subconscious activity of
or through the channel or medium.

What’s the difference?

Between a channel and a medium?

Yes.

Perhaps, in essence they’re the same.

Then, why did you mention both?

Are they not the same?

No.

Then, what is the difference.

The difference is one of function.

Please explain.

A medium communicates physical people
with non-physical people.

And a channel?

She serves a non-physical person. or purpose.

She?

Yes, you.

Are you my shadow?

In a way, yes.

What does that mean?

It means…

Abusive Disrespect

jeanw5's avatarI Ching as a Way to Enlightenment

A Spirit Teacher shares His understanding
of I Ching hexagram 44 – Meeting, and how
it can be expressed in our individual life
and collectively; here and now; wherever
here and now are.

Heaven is above Wind.
Heaven is yang while Wind is yin.

First; Chela, tell me your immediate response
to our chosen reading.

Forty-four is not a number I would choose.

But, you did.

Perhaps it chose me.

Why?

Possibly because of my resistance to
the disrespectful attitude it seems to
express toward women.

Social order requires certain restrictions
to individuals.

I can understand that, but when women
are, or seem to be, classified as less
than men, then …

You rise to their defense.

I am a woman.

Yes.

What does that mean?

It means that your response suggests
that you are defending the position
of women in an earlier culture
simply because you are a woman.

Don’t Tell Me – Show Me

Action can express the spoken word as in walking the talk. Unless we act according to our claimed beliefs, then we are only pretending to believe, whatever.,

jeanw5's avatarGrass-Roots Spiritual Philosophy 101

A simple seeker was giving early morning thanks
to the Universe for blessings received.

Then, she randomly chose her relationship card
for the day, from her favorite Tarot deck.

The Ace of Wands presented itself.
Wow! A powerful card; a powerful action card.

The message?

Don’t tell Me – show Me.

Called up on the Carpet, Again

Dear Reader, I can’t remember what the distressing issue was all about or who it was that distressed me about what. Isn’t that wonderful? Perhaps we do have selective memory.

jeanw5's avatarSimple Seeker Society

“Chela”, Spirit seems to sigh with hopeless resignation at my distress. Where is the compassion and understanding? Surely I have suffered enough.

“Chela”, my mind must have wandered. Blame it on stress.

“You have always, it seems, excused, or tried to excuse, obnoxious and, or abusive behaviour on the pretention, and I repeat, pretention, that it was due to a lack of development of more socially acceptable forms of behaviour, and not to a deliberate intent to offend or harm you. And then, though the incident stresses you to tears, you blame yourself for being too sensitive. When will you dare to accept that what seems abusive, is abuse”.

“It is a Law of Nature”, Spirit reminds me, for haven’t I heard this lecture a thousand times or more, “that every action we consciously, or through habit, choose to undertake, requires intent. And, when you, through need of whatever, choose to…

The Way of Arrogance

Can extremes of arrogance and humility be opposite ends of the same continuum, with The Middle Way being mid way between them?

jeanw5's avatarI Ching as a Way to Enlightenment

A Spirit Teacher shares his understanding of
the I Ching Hexagram 26 – Great Accumulation,
with me and whomever else cares to listen.

Great Accumulation follows No Error (25)
and moves toward Nourishment (27).
Mountain is over Heaven.

Nothing is higher than Heaven, and yet,
in this instance, Mountain claims to be.

Can this express challenge to authority?

Yes.

How could such a situation develop from
No Error?

The pendulum has swung to the opposite
extreme.

Mountain is out of line?

In the eyes of Heaven, yes.

And Heaven is forever.

Forever what?

Not what, but in terms of time.

There is no time.

Then, what is the meaning?

When?

Now.

Nothing comes from nothing.

Then, No Error and Great Accumulation
can be seen as opposite extremes?

Of what?

Arrogance?

Yes.

How does this situation lead toward
Nourishment?

Awareness is as nourishment.

Awareness of the Middle Way?

Yes.
