When Chaos Rules

A spirit teacher shares His understanding of timeless wisdom.

He tells me that there was a time, not very distant into the past, when children everywhere learned to understand and to speak
a particular language at a very young age, and the language they learned to understand and speak became their language, and more, much more.

From a child’s perspective, language is a means for sharing his or her world with other people, their people.

Also, many of us learned to believe in a particular religion
at a very young age. Whether we were aware of it or not, we also learned social rules specific to that religion, as separate from legal or traffic rules. The religious rules we learned served as a social code, to guide the way we would learn to live.

Many of us no longer live in a community where we all understand and speak the same language, or accept the same religion and the specific social rules that specific religions teach.

Perhaps even the same traffic rules may not apply to all communities?

Yes.

When does chaos rule?.

Chaos never rules except as a transitional force between one set of rules and another, or between individuals or groups of individuals adjusting to the larger realities of life, and learning to understand that no rules are necessarily acceptable to all people in all places, or for all time unless they serve and make sense to all people.

All languages and all religious social customs or rules serve, or did serve a purpose, when societies lived separate from each other. They provide or did provide a sense of community.

Today, for many of us, it is the language, religion, or social customs of others, not our own, that contribute to disharmony and conflict in our relationships within a world community.

Our attitudes may invite Chaos to rule, when simple respect
would serve to unite us.

udes invite Chaos to rule, w would unite us.

Pawns can make a Difference in the Game

Spirit tells me that I am, as I sometimes suspect that

I might be, and yet struggle against the very idea of

Being, no more than a pawn in the Game of Life.

Pawns can and do make a difference, He tells me, as if

That would cheer me up. Yes, He continues, pawns can be

Part of winning a game, but only if they are willing to serve

A skilled, master of the game.

Spirit is not without ego. The implication is, of course,

That I am the pawn while He is the skilled, master player.

The rules of the game are Universal Laws, but the Spirit

Of the game is Love. The rules are inflexible, in the same

Sense that four o’clock comes at the same each day,

Whether or not your day’s work is done.

The good news…

Wow! There’s good news? I try to sound sarcastic, but,

It’s wasted on Him.

The good news, without seeming to have noticed my

Interruption, is that the Game of Life is directed by Love,

And, Love allows for compassion.

That’s so good to know.

But, rules are rules.

Practice is habit with a purpose

Spirit tells me that practice is habit, but an intentional one,

With a goal, and requires intent to improve or maintain

What we have developed in skills or in establishing

A way of life.

Practice can result in patterns of behaviour; physical, intellectual,

Emotional and, or spiritual that may appear to some others to be

No more than habits.

There is also the danger, He cautions, of practice becoming

No more than a habit, when intention is no longer involved.

How can I be sure that I still have intention?

Are you satisfied?

No.

Are you still making progress?

Yes, but …

Even a little is more than none.

Not all apples are alike

Spirit tells me that I must learn to judge people as I would

Fruit at a market. Not all apples are alike.

So it is with people. We do not choose produce according

To how we would like it to be, but by how it seems to be,

Now. Quality is more or less self-evident.

We may be more or less than we once were, and we may

Become more or less than what we now are, in whatever

Aspect of our being.

But, for now we are as we are, or seem to be. So it is

With everyone.

Those who have eyes to see are, at least to some extent,

Responsible for what they see, and, for how they respond

To what they see. It’s as simple as that.

Usually suggests exceptions

Spirit tells me that there are many more ways than one

To climb a mountain, and that straight up is not one of them.

Dedicating oneself to a steep climb can prove to be a

Solitary journey. But, there is no ideal way for all people.

More flexibility will encourage others to join us, and

There is usually no reason to hurry.

Usually suggests exceptions.

Yes.

Such as?

When the path we have chosen is self or other destructive.

Then what?

Change paths. It’s as simple as that.

A powerful sense of responsibility

Spirit tells me that the purpose of His teaching is to encourage

The study and practice of an increasingly clearer understanding of

Our interconnectedness to all forms of life, human and otherwise,

And of our personal responsibility to care for and protect, not only

Our own unique individual life, but also that of the countless,

Equally unique life forms that we share our world with.

How?

By becoming intentionally aware of how we live and the negative

Affect that may have on others.

That would require a powerful sense of responsibility.

Not would; it does.

Is it possible?

Yes.

How?

One step at a time.

And the first step is intention?

Yes.

Uniqueness is a Temporary Condition

Spirit tells me that I am unique but not to worry.

This is only a temporary condition. It was not

Designed to last.

We are each unique, but only until we share our

Special uniqueness.

Some egos expand in a socially unhealthy way, by

Bloating instead of transcending what they are.

How to transcend what I am?

What are you.

A woman.

Become a human.

Oneness with viariable attributes

Spirit tells me that spirituality is a natural capacity

To expand a mystical awareness and understanding

Of life that develops compassion for others.

We can, if we will to, increasingly recognize

Ourselves in others, and others in ourselves,

Without which, He claims, compassion is not

Possible.

There is no essential difference between anyone.

We could never, He tells me, recognize love or

Hostility in others, if we were incapable of

Experiencing, to a greater or lesser degree,

Perhaps, the emotions that we witness.

In essence, there is oneness with variable attributes.

Letting it all go

Spirit tells me to let it all go, since it is going, anyway.

I am two generations behind where today’s action is.

I hardly need to be reminded that Life is moving me

Into the past, while young people are moving into

Their future.

The world I remember is being swept away, to make

Room for the world of tomorrow, that younger

Generations are creating, without much thought

To what once was.

When we have done all that we can, He tells me,

Then we must be content to wish them well, and

Get out of their way.

Does that mean that I’m on the way out?

We are all on the way out, at least in some way.

As I am is not the way I am, or is it?

Spirit tells me that for me to love myself as I am

Does not require that I love myself the way I am.

I can accept myself as imperfect without necessarily

Accepting my imperfections.

And, He suggests that I really must work on these.

Where would I begin?

From the beginning.

When was that?

It never was.

So, what then?

You can only begin now.

He’s wrong of course. I’ve been trying for as long as

I can remember.
