Relationships provide a sense of connectedness

Spirit tells me that relationships serve to provide us with a sense of

Connectedness, whether the connectedness is real or imagined.

What kind of relationships are we talking about?

Any kind.

Such as?

Intimate, personal but not intimate, casual, neighbourly, professional,

Physical, intellectual, emotional, spiritual, whatever, or a combination

Of some of the above.

Think about it? He asks me. How? What? and whom do I relate to? and

In what way?

Also, He adds, bear in mind that not everything or everyone I send my

Vibrating energy waves to, by choice or otherwise, is tuned into

Receiving them, or would care to tune in, if they were not now.

What made me think that relationships were less complicated than that?

A simple outlook on the outer world.

Are relationships with the inner world less complicated?

For whom?

Me.

No.

My Spirit teacher explains I Ching 36 – Reduced Light

Reduced Light follows Advance in the order of the hexagrams.

Fire over Earth follows Earth over Fire.

The sun appears to be above the Earth by day, and

Below the Earth by night.

A wisdom tradition tells us that to everything there is

A time and a season.

How does the reading apply to me?

Be patient.

Saying it doesn’t make it so.

Spirit tells me that, at a grass-roots level, compassion is as

Sophisticated a way as any to express genuine care.

Gentle words of love and caring serve a need, both to the

Giver and to the one receiving, but only when the words

Are supported by caring deeds can they at least seem

To be genuine expressions.

Compassion is a beautiful word that expresses a deep but

Simple emotion, genuine care for someone or something.

But, saying it is never enough. We need to support our

Caring words with caring actions.

I could still be pretending.

Yes.

Free will and community

Today’s I Ching is 60 – Discipline

Water over Lake.. Discipline follows Dispersal.

Spirit explains:  When a river flows into a lake then water overflows

Onto surrounding land, unless it is restricted from doing so.

Dispersal suggests an unorganized scattering, such as seeds or

Dry leaves by a wind.

There is no free will choice, no sense of freedom involved when

We have no self-control concerning where we are going with our life.

Self-discipline determines what we will do with our potential; how

It will be directed. Without self-control, we risk being controlled by others.

How to have it both ways? I need to be free and still be a contributing part of

A community. I need to think for myself and still learn from You and others.

Yes, we need both.

Then how do we work both sides of the street?

We don’t.

Then what?

We compromise; we find an acceptable middle ground between extremes

Of individualism and group control. But we must always be aware of

The price we choose to pay, or we risk losing choosing.

To serve Life and self as one

Spirit tells me that I can only serve Life by serving myself, and

I can only serve myself by serving Life. It’s as simple as that.

How can I know when and if I am serving myself or Life?

It’s one and the same.

And if I’m helping a neighbour?

Your neighbour is Life.

But, there are some neighbours I would rather not serve at all.

What then?

Then you have a problem.

Now what?

Today’s I Ching is 39 – Halting.

Water over Mountain.

Halting follows Disharmony.

Spirit explains: Disharmony expresses lack of general consensus,

Disagreement, perhaps even different world views, different

Goals or needs.

Whatever; a way forward has been halted, brought to a stand-still.

A mental road block can halt co-operation and progress as

Effectively as one made of stone.

Now what?

Yes.

Now what?

Today’s I Ching is 39 – Halting

Water over Mountain.

Halting follows Disharmony.

Spirit explains: Disharmony expresses lack of general consensus,

Disagreement, perhaps even different world views, different

Goals or needs.

Whatever; a way forward has been halted, brought to a

Stand=still. A mental road block can halt co-operation and

Progress as effectively as one made of stone.

Now what?

Yes.

Free will is never free

Spirit tells me that in many ways the past cannot be changed, but

Our understanding of past experiences is, at least to a certain extent,

A reflection of our intellectual and emotional maturity, at any given time,

As well as the degree of truth of information we received from others

Concerning the events in our past.

Even facts can be misinterpreted, intentionally or otherwise. We may

Also learn to accept that any past events necessarily developed out of

Even earlier situations, as well as from choices made by ourselves or others.

Through a continuous process of change, caused by forces beyond our

Control, at least to some extent, the choices we make today will limit or

Expand the choices available to us tomorrow.

We are what we have become and we will be what we become.

Where does free will fit into the picture?

Free will is never free.

More is not necessarily better

Today’s I Ching is 46 – Rising.

Spirit explains: Rising follows Gathering in a natural succession.

As we gather together, we rise in numbers, but quantity is not

Necessarily a rising in quality. More is not in itself better or

Worse than less.

What does that mean for me?

You seem to always want more of something without considering

How it would balance with less of something else.

We pay a price.

Or would, if You let me have my way?

Yes.

We each are as a story within a story

Spirit tells me that we each are as a double agent, but only one side is

Aware of this until we realize that everything we do, or choose not to do,

Influences those around us, as well as all life around us, and

Everything is Life.

Whatever we do, for whatever reason, in some way makes a difference.

How we each live our individual life tells a story. We each are a story, and

The story we tell, and are, dissolves into or integrates within

Ten thousand, more or less, other stories.

Even so, these seemingly countless numbers of individual and collective

Stories are only one small part of an ever-larger and ever-expanding

Story of Life.
