Spirit tells me that
I do not have, as a psych prof
Once suggested, a dependent
Personality. Instead, we each are
A dependent personality, and that
Only denial or illusion prevents us
From awareness of this reality.

Relationship is Social Connective Tissue
Spirit tells me that
Social connective tissue
Serves the same general
Purpose as physical, biological
Connective tissue, within a human
Or animal body. How?
It allows individuals, groups of
Individuals, and groups of groups
Of individuals to live as
One life form, while seeming
To live separate existences,
Each possessing, possibly
Different ways and means of
Achieving, or attempting to achieve
A Universal goal of health
And happiness.
Spirit then tells me, as if
I could not figure it out
For myself, that Our way is
Not for everyone.
We each must learn from
Experience, what lifestyle is
For us and then to develop it,
One step at a time.
We are all addicted to something
Spirit tells me that
We are all addicted to something.
Our individual needs and desires
Could never be fully fulfilled.
Maslow’s hierarchy had it right,
If only partially. But, he didn’t reach high
Or far enough. He spoke of needs,
Suggesting, material, physical,
Survival needs, as if these alone
Could somehow satisfy our
Mind.
Spirit tells me that, our spiritual
Needs, drives, and desires
Can never be satisfied and,
That Compassion allows us
To feel this need to fulfillment
In others.
An ancient dictum to
Go forth and multiply.
Referred to more, much more
Than reproduction for
Its own sake. It was
A Divine command, as if
A command was necessary.
It is in the essence of
Our nature to seek
Without possessing the capacity
For self-satisfaction. We need
To learn to accept and respect
Needs and desires fulfillment
As a holy purpose and
A sacred duty. Of course,
We can get sidetracked.

Life as the only constant
Spirit tells me that
Today is not separate from
Yesterday in any real sense.
Today emerges from yesterday
and both are part of a
continuum, a continuum of
events and situations.
The scene changes. The
plot thickens, or weakens, but
There is no end, or
Beginning. The only constant
Is Life.
A Joyous Struggle
Whenever I complain, and
I seem to complain much more than
I care to admit, or even
Remember, Spirit tells me,
In a pleasant and assuring manner, that,
If walking the Path of Enlightenment
Is not a struggle, then
I’m not on the path at all,
But only pretending to be, or
Into denial or illusion.
But, I protest,
Where is the joy?
Then Spirit gently tells me that
The struggle for awareness is
A joyous struggle if
I will only allow it to be.
To Satisfy My Soul
Spirit tells me to
Continuously seek to learn
How to think, what to think, and
Why do I think what I do, and
At the same time, to seek
To learn how to care for
Myself and others, and
To care for all that is, and
To express with my life
My care for my world and
Myself, by being what
I need to be, and doing
What I need to do,
To satisfy my soul.
Every Relationship is a Learning Experience
Spirit tells me that
Every relationship is a learning experience
In which each participant is both
Teaching and learning something.
Deep or shallow, Long term or
Short term. how far will
Each particular relationship
Take us, if we allow or
Invite it, to?.
How does or will each relationship
Change us and how will we
Change the other or others?
Is it, or will it be worth the effort
If we are aware and intend
To change and/or be changed?
Any relationship either stimulates or
Drains our energy and
Other resources, precious or
Otherwise.
Where will each relationship
Take us, and how can we know
Until…..?
Boundaries and Limitations
Spirit tells me that
Boundaries are around us and,
Limitations are within us, but
Neither boundaries nor limitations
Are static or rigid, unless
We choose to allow them
To be.
We can, If we will to, at least
To some extent, overcome
Personal boundaries and
Limitations.
We can, if we will to,
He tells me, push
Both our boundaries
And limitations,
To give ourselves
More flexibility and
More opportunities, if
We are willing to accept
The cost; responsibility.
The reward is increased
Satisfaction in creating
Our own life.
Yesterday’s Truth
Spirit tells me that
We are, He and I,
As the two sides of one coin,
With the only difference being
That my side is heavier, so that,
With any given toss, or dispute,
The chances of my winning over
His ideas are slimmer than slim.
But, He tells me, I should never
Not challenge Him, but just try
To put less wasted energy
Into the process.
Believe what I must, but only
As long as I must, and then
Let go without regret, for
The possibly lifetimes of energy
That I have poured into
Its defence.
Release it gently, He tells me,
And live today’s truth, that may,
Tomorrow, also be,
Yesterday’s truth.
We are all Soul Mates
Spirit tells me that
Whether or not I am aware
Of the fact, We are all
On a journey of discovery
Together, Not to transcend
What we are (trade ourselves
In for something else), but
To transform, or change,
What we are, into something
Better, and in the process,
Improve the conditions of
The world we live in, simply by
The way we choose to live
Our individual life.
We in Spirit share your perspective,
With you and through you.
The human body, whom
You inhabit, for a time,
And a purpose, is, as We are,
Spirit. You are not alone.
