A Personal History Book

Spirit shares words of wisdom with me that seem so deep and yet expressed in words simple enough even for me, a simple seeker
and slow learner, to almost understand.

He tells me that knowing is not a matter of faith. We know
that wounds hurt for we have experienced their pain, both
physical and emotional wounds.

Physical pain is felt through our physical senses while
emotional pain is a mental state and is often learned and
developed through habit.

How do we learn emotional pain?

It’s a socially acquired skill.

If you offend me and I feel distressed, then I have learned
to feel distressed, and you’re not the cause?

Yes.

Who taught me?

You taught yourself.

Then, everyone would feel offended for the same reason?

Not necessarily.

Why?

You couldn’t offend me.

Perhaps you’ve developed immunity to offence.

There are other labels.

Such as?

Tolerance, patience, understanding, compassion, …
The list goes on.

You didn’t include awareness.

Yes.

Why?

The examples I provided each require a certain depth
of awareness.

The problem with that approach, or at least one problem,
is that it would seem to require a certain detachment
from the emotional state of the offender, as well as
from oneself.

Why would that be a problem?

It would suggest a certain lack of sensitivity.

Not necessarily so.

Please explain.

As we become increasingly aware of the path, then we can
listen to what some might call offence, calmly, and feel
compassion for the distress of the other. As Confucius
might say, “No blame”.

How is that possible?

As we develop an ever more clear vision, we can see in many
more directions than one.The present arrived from the
past and we each are as a personal history book that
those who have eyes to see can read, and we all can and
will develop eyes that see, sooner or later, and from
a unique perspective.

I’m not ready for that quality of insight, yet.

Yes.

Reason Does Not Express Itself

I may never know why Spirit chooses to share His understanding
of spiritual philosophy with me, but I hope I will be eternally
grateful to Him for helping me to understand His deep thoughts
in a form simple enough for me to learn.

The wisdom He shares with me is not His, alone, He tells me.
He claims that all that He has learned has been shared with
Him, as it was with those who taught Him what He now shares
with me. It belongs to everyone who cares to claim it.

Problems arise, He tells me, when the knowledge we each absorb
from whomever or whatever source is filtered through and
modified by our unique understanding, that has necessarily
developed through personal experience.

How can what is necessary be a problem?

Not in itself.

How, then?

The problem arises when we seek to share what we know
or think we know, with others.

But, surely we need to share …

Yes, we need to share our unique understanding, at least
with those who seem to be aware of …

Can awareness be shared?

In the story of Buddha and the rose, the rose expressed
something to the teacher that he wished to share with
his followers …

And only one student responded with a smile at the beauty
of the flower.

Yes. Th others were all aware that it was a beautiful rose,
but were …

Trying to rationalize what message it was meant to teach.

Yes, appreciation of beauty for its own sake requires
emotional maturity.

Beauty express itself and reason does not?

Yes.

We Each Change Everything

Spirit tells me that I can only be or become
the person I already am; the person I have
always been and always will be.

I can understand that I am who I was and
will be, but can I become other than I am?

Yes. We change everything and everything
changes us. We are not what we were or
what we may yet become.

So, I’m both a who and a what?

You are not a who; you are who. And,
you can never be a what, whatever what
you may have in mind.

What am I if I am not what I am?

You are a woman.

But, that’s not unique.

The woman you are is unique.

In what way?

No other woman is you.

Being is not enough.

Enough what?

Achievement.

Being doesn’t require much achievement.

But, I want to achieve.

What?

I don’t know.

Nothing can be achieved without effort.

And acquiring something requires effort?

Yes.

And effort requires intent?

Yes.

And intent comes before effort?

Yes.

And what comes before intent?

Desire and a chosen way to achieve
what is desired.

And opportunity?

Yes, but sometimes we must create
our own opportunities.

How?

Observation and preparation, with
help from synchronicity.

Chance?

Call it what you will, but first
do nothing until you know what to do.

How to do nothing?

Practice.

Meditate?

Yes.
But, I

The Middle Way is Narrow or Wide

Spirit tells me that the middle way is as narrow
or wide as the mind who walks it is.

Then, the middle way for some might be considered
as an extreme by some others who travel on either
side of that so-called middle way?

There is no so-called middle way. Anyone who
travels her or his own middle way is travelling
the middle way.

Regardless of how it might appear to some others?

We do not sincerely travel the middle way, our
middle way, to impress others, unless we are
travelling a road designed by others.

Then, we design our own middle way?

Yes.

How is that possible?

How is it not possible?

How can we know?

What?

What our own middle way should look like.

Look like?

I need to be able to visualize.

Yes.

What does that mean?

We can only know our own middle way
by also knowing our own extremes;
our individual potential for living
high or low.

I thought the middle way was moving
upward.

It is.

But, if the path we each travel is
between a low way and a high way ..

And it is.

Please explain.

To walk the middle way is to live as
you now live, moving through time,
while you are experiencing physical form

Your thoughts and emotions have power
to pull you high or low. Your unique
middle way harmonizes equally with
both extremes.

Then, some might have …

Not some; all do have a unique outlook
on life – within and without.

Then, no two middle ways will necessarily
be as the other?

Exactly.

Then, how can I learn to recognize my own
middle way?

Self-awareness. Know thyself.

More meditation?

Yes, but intentional meditation.

Oneness is a core principle of Life

Spirit tells me that a new story must be told about our inner reality, an inner world of Spirit wherein all Life is eager to assist and share in the creation of our future, and to teach us how to care for each other, everyone, and everything we care for.

We are each citizens of this world, He tells me. We each blend our unique energies together into one. We are serving each other, in one way or another

Oneness is a core principle of Life.

Unity in Diversity

Spirit tells me tht we each develop awareness in our own time and in our own way.

There is no reward for those who finish first, for nobody ever finishes, at least not as individuals.

Sooner or later we choose,  not at an intellectual level of thought, but as a consequence of expanded awareness, to merge our own, unique perspective with a larger and more inclusive mind.

There is no limit to what we can learn, both individually and collectively.

But, what if some of us seem to need to learn something that others may not consider important, to them?

We each learn to satisfy our unique need to learn whatever, according to personal interest.

 Unity in diversity?

 Yes.

It may all be an Illusion.

Spirit tells me that what is or seems to be, may be an illusion, and

What might have been or what might yet be is not now.

What purpose then is there to my believing anything if all that

Seems so may be no more than an illusion?  What path to follow if

All paths fade into nothingness?

Choose wisely.

How could any choice be a wise one in such a scenario?

Intuition and intent.

But, my intuition and intent are possibly unique, to me.

Yes, and so is your path.

Different rules for the game of Life

Spirit tells me that we each play the Game of Life by a unique set of

Rules that favours ourselves  more than anyone else.

Intentionally?

Intentionally what? To play our way? or to play to win?

How can we play Life with someone else’s rules?

We each play by the same rules.

How can the rules be unique and the same?

Because we see them that way?

How else could we play?

With awareness.

Awareness of what?

Life.

How can we learn to be more aware of Life?

By living.

We do.

Yes.

An inner palette of life-force energy

Spirit tells me that we each possess a unique blend of

Life-force energies that express themselves as

Potentialities. However, nothing we experience is unique,

Except that it is necessarily a personal experience.

The colours of our inner energy palette can be blended

With each other in seemingly endless ways. Our unique

Blend of life-force energies makes the difference in how

We each create and experience life.

Does all this activity go on behind the scenes? or between

The lines of the story of my life?

Are you asking me if you are aware of what is happening?

Yes.

Then the answer is obviously no.

Is it possible to be aware?

Of what?

Of my life-force energies.

Yes.

The Path is The Only Game in Town

Spirit tells me that we each follow our own Path of Enlightenment

And that The Path is the only game in town.

Travel along the path requires thoughts and emotions working

Together in more or less harmony, to create our unique personality.

The path of enlightenment does not have a geographical location

As a goal. Instead, it is a personal, spiritual journey or process

To refine the quality of our thoughts and emotions, and the

Actions that express them.
