Trust in a Guiding Light

Today’s I Ching hexagram 40 – Solution develops out of Halting (39), and

Leads to Reduction (41).

Spirit explains: Unless we stop and think about what we are doing, we risk

Mindless activity. We wander from the path, our path.

We need to reconnect, recommit, and redirect our focus and energy.

How?

Awareness of our goal and trust in a guiding light.

A metaphor for?

Me.

Endings change into beginnings.

Spirit explains I Ching 64 – Unsettled.

Fire over Water represents an unsettled situation, both in nature and

In human relationships. This unstable condition is represented in the

Hexagrams with active and forceful Fire being a yin trigram, but

Emotional Water being a yang trigram.

How is it possible for Water to be yang, and Fire to be yin?

All forms of life contain a blend of the same energies contained in

All other life forms, to a greater or lesser degree. Yang represents

Creative and forceful, if necessary, energy, while yin represents

Receptive and nurturing energy, but also contains assertive power.

Neither yang nor yin is subservient to the other. They constantly

Interact to develop a harmonious relationship without either denying

Their own or the other’s individuality. Sometimes they necessarily

Seem to oppose each other and, at other times they blend

Harmoniously as one, or as close to oneness as they each feel

Comfortable with.

So, even though Fire and Water could cancel each other out, they are

Aware that doing so would be self-destructive?

Yes. This awareness is a very appropriate setting for Unsettled, the 64th

And ending Hexagram. It sets the stage for the interactive cycle of life

To begin again, without ever having actually ended, with Hexagram 1,

The Creative.

To love unseen potential

Spirit tells me that it is easy to love whom or what is obviously

Lovable, but to love what or whom requires intention to love

Unseen potential, we must first feel compassion based on

awareness that we, ourselves, may not always have been as

lovable as we may now consider ourselves to be.

How would we express love based on compassion?

We would accept it as a sacred duty to care for and about

Whatever or whomever we intended to love.

Faith requires letting go.

Spirit’s I Ching reading for today – 44 – Meeting.

Meeting develops from Removal and leads to Gathering.

How?

We cannot move into tomorrow without first leaving today behind us.

We remove ourselves from the past and look forward to gathering

New experiences  and, perhaps, new friends.

Life requires faith. We cannot reach out while we are holding on.

Holding on to what?

Whatever.

Letting go is easier said than done.

Yes, or it would not require faith.

Faith in what?

Not what, but whom.

Then, faith in whom?

Faith in yourself.

Life is not linear.

Spirit tells me that life must be a struggle if we are to learn how to live

In such a way that serves us well as individuals, while, at the same time,

Contributes to the well-being of whatever world we happen to be

Living in at any given time.

What does that mean?

What does what mean?

About living in different worlds at the same time. Do you mean

During one lifetime?

Yes.

How is that possible?

Life is not linear. It is multi-dimensional. We each live in many worlds

At the same time.

Such as?

Each role we play in life requires us to live in a different world.

And each relationship?

Yes.

We can pretend not to see.

Today’s I Ching – 36 – Damage to Illumination.

Spirit explains the Universal Law of Change, which, He claims, is

Connected to but separate from, other Universal Laws, such as Karma.

We have no power to prevent change, for we are part of all that is changing.

We co-create, with all life, not what changes but how it and we change.

Damage to Illumination expresses this Universal reality, but we can

Pretend  Not to see or accept even what we cannot honestly deny.

Why would we pretend?

Perhaps for fear of being required to accept responsibility for

An undeniable truth.

Such as?

That we each are part of what is, and we play a role in how

It will develop. Did we Advance (35) too quickly, or too slowly

To see how it would affect our Family (37)?….

How can we ever know?

What?

Anything.

Experience.

Spirit’s I Ching 58 – Pleasing

A Spirit Teacher explains I Ching 58 – Pleasing.

Yin and Yang symbolize the possible extremes of relationships between

Emotion and thought, or their blending together in harmony.

Lake over Lake represents emotional instability. Pleasing follows Wind and

Is moving toward Dispersal, and is now more or less midway between the two.

But, is The Way of Life we have chosen to follow today, narrow and focused, or<

Is it tending to bee too inflexible, or too wavering?

The Narrow Way, in the Wisdom Tradition, refers to a chosen path, not a

Rigid one. Also, any situation expressed in the I Ching,  is whatever

Situation is presenting itself now, to the reader, or to the one for whom

The reading is given.

We each are, at any given time, part way between what was and what

May yet be. But, have we moved well ahead of where we were, or

Barely moved at all? Our progress, and our choices, will determine

How near or far we are from what was and what yet may be happening

In our lives.

That is fascinating insight but what does it have to do with Pleasing?

We please ourselves and pay the price.

What price?

Whatever, and we can never know what future price we will be

Required to pay.

So we need to consider carefully …

Yes.

Different rules for the game of Life

Spirit tells me that we each play the Game of Life by a unique set of

Rules that favours ourselves  more than anyone else.

Intentionally?

Intentionally what? To play our way? or to play to win?

How can we play Life with someone else’s rules?

We each play by the same rules.

How can the rules be unique and the same?

Because we see them that way?

How else could we play?

With awareness.

Awareness of what?

Life.

How can we learn to be more aware of Life?

By living.

We do.

Yes.

The Value of Signs of Aging

Spirit explains I Ching 22 – Adornment.

Mountain over Fire.

Adornment follows Biting Through.

An adornment is a decoration. It adds value without necessarily serving

A practical purpose of its own. It can be as icing on a cake, gravy on a

Steak, or as precious stones worn around one’s neck, arms, fingers, or

Pinned to hair or clothes. It might also be something that can be set on

A table, to be admired.

Biting Through suggests successfully completing a mission of importance,

To oneself, if to no other. Something needed to be done, and now can be

Celebrated and remembered with an adornment as a reward.

That sounds very nice but what personal message of inspiration can it

Have for me?

Do you possess something that seems to remind you of something else?

Such as?

Perhaps the many small lines on your face.

They only remind me that I am getting older.

Have you earned them?

I think so.

Yes.
